The atmosphere at Schodack is best described in our
camp motto: generations of warmth,
tradition, and spirit.
We pride ourselves on hiring caring and enthusiastic counselors who
love working
with children. With 270 campers
and 130 staff—an incredible
ratio—you will become an integral part of the campers' lives,
sharing encouragement, hugs and cheers on a daily basis.
Most of our staff
come from three principal areas. We recruit college and graduate
students from all over the US. We travel to international job
fairs to meet and hire activity instructors. Most of our bunk staff
graduated from our two-year Leadership Training (LT) program.
All staff have six 30-hour days off during
the summer. Many take advantage of our great location by visiting
both Lake George and Saratoga
(less than 1 hour away) as well as Boston and New York City (2
1⁄2 hours away).
Most evenings, staff are able to enjoy free time off
camp. There are many local restaurants, movie theatres, stores, a
mini golf course, a bowling alley, and malls. For those who do not
have access to cars, camp provides transportation.
We also offer an
amazing on-camp evening staff recreation program with such activities
as sports leagues
under the lights (soccer, basketball & street hockey), movies
in our counselor lounge (which also offers snack machines, pay phones,
DirecTV & internet
access), arts & crafts nights,
bonfires, and many other games and events.

| Group Leaders: One
Group Leader (GL) is assigned to each bunk. As the GL, you stay with
your bunk of campers throughout the day. You move with
your campers from activity to activity, assisting the Activity
Counselor while taking part in the fun with the kids. The GL is the
one in charge
and responsible for the campers and Bunk Counselors (BC). As
a GL, you will have two or three BCs who work with you to help supervise
and create a fun atmosphere for the kids. |

| Bunk
Counselors: Bunk
Counselors (BC) are like the “big brother/sister” for their
group of campers. Working under the guidance of your Group Leader,
your goal is to create a fun and exciting summer and to be there at
those times when your camper needs that extra bit of TLC. Generally
you spend your day going from activity to activity, joining in and
helping out where needed. |
| |
| Activity
Counselors: An Activity Counselor’s (AC) main responsibility
is the instruction of his/her activity to all the bunks on camp.
This includes a combination of skill-building and time for scrimmages,
practices, or games. Each bunk goes to every activity one to three
times per week. Three times a day there are Camper Choice periods,
when campers who really love that activity will go for extra and
more personal instruction or time to play. Most of our ACs live in
staff housing. |
