Here at Camp Schodack we are incredibly fortunate to have such a beautiful and easily accessible property in Upstate New York, just across the Massachusetts line. Set in the foothills of the Berkshires near the Hudson Valley region, we are only 2.5 hours from Boston and New York City – a prime location . Nestled away on our private, 100-acre property we have 60 acres of woodland trails and paths to explore that wonderfully compliment the 40 acres of open lawns which support the bulk of our activity areas. In addition to our traditional team sports such as basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey, lacrosse and more we have a set of brand new tennis courts, a high -ropes/adventure course, 300 yard zip-line, 40ft climbing tower, 2 heated swimming pools, go-kart track and access to a 400 acre lake. Alongside our activities we have many beautifully renovated cabins that are cool during the day and warm in the evenings as well as a dining hall that can accommodate the entire camp having meals together.
Camp Schodack has a long history of providing amazing summer experiences to children of all ages. The property has been under the same continuous Krouner-family ownership for 4 generations. Founded as a summer camp by ‘Uncle Lou’ Krouner and his wife Clara in 1957, Schodack is now operated by Paul Krouner who represents the second generation and Matt Krouner who is the third! Paul has his doctorate in Education and Matt is a licensed clinical psychologist. Forever known for creating a warm and nurturing environment, Schodack’s philosophy has always been centered on maintaining a close and personal connection with our campers and families. For that reason we make sure that our staff ration is almost 2-1 campers/staff to ensure that we offer the best possible care to our campers. This allows our staff to have a real in-depth knowledge of the campers they are taking care of and to ensure that we are able to respond to every campers’ needs on an individual basis.
Schodack is guided by its leaders every step of the way. Our fantastic Directors and Assistant Directors have spent years and years at Schodack as they themselves have grown up here as their summer home. Because of this continuity, our staff know every piece of how Schodack operates and how to create the best experience for our campers. Our Head Staff have also been at Schodack for many years, lots of them also as campers and an incredible 90% of our bunk staff were campers here themselves. This unique percentage of home-grown staff at Schodack makes it a sure bet that your child will love their counselors, and keeps a sense of family inherent to everything we do. Above all else, this long legacy of evolution from camper to staff member to leadership team allows us to pass on our history, heritage and traditions from generation to generation with ease and is the reason that so many our of campers come back year after year.
Camp Schodack takes the safety of our campers and staff very seriously and has 60 year history of running camp safely and smoothly. To ensure our standards are of the highest possible level, we are active members of the American Camping Association (ACA) and have been accredited through them every year of our operation. The Krouners are also active members of many leading camp organizations and give presentation on camp-related topics in many different environments. At Schodack we believe summer camp is one of the greatest gifts a parent can give to their child and the opportunities for personal growth and positive social interactions are endless. But these developments can only exits in a safe and carefully planned environment, which is Schodack is proud to provide as a summer camp industry leader.
