Our Latest Video

Our week has been full of excitement, adventure, joy… and a slew of other emotions. We had our first 5-day Tribals fake earlier this week and the theme of this year’s tribals was revealed to be Inside Out. Or, in the name of our SPEC, Ben-side Out. Emotions have been running high all around camp with the growing excitement for tribals growing.

On Sunday we had our second LT carnival of the season! A reptile petting zoo, various derby races in the garden, a dunk tank out on the lawn. To boot the sweetest cotton candy, specialty beverage concoctions themed around camp, and a cookie decorating station were on the menu. The LTs donned their most colorful attire for the day, manning the aux (music cable) and filling camp with sounds of laughter and music.
Our final leg of Triple Crown is approaching. Bunks have been working hard designing plaques, penning out lyrics, and learning sitting choreography as the days tick by. In the Playhouse a cast is working hard on our Broadway Beats production. A selection of songs and dance from beloved Broadway musicals. Pat To The Rhythm returned to the Garden and filled camp with an irresistible beat.  There’s also been impromptu dance battles, trips to Kentucky at the flagpole, and popup celebrations in the quad.

Another fantastic week for all 3 acorn bunks…

Yet again another busy week which has been full of activities, BPN practice and some fun events. This week included the LT carnival…Our favourite part was the petting zoo… We also loved watching Camp Rock for one of our night activities…..

Here are some of the things we’ve been up to this week

  • The acorn boys love the lake and a favourite of theirs is banana boating. Hockey is also a bunk favourite with lots of boys choosing to go there in campers choice.
  • The acorn 1 girls loved making pizza in cooking. Topping choices were varied between pepperoni, cheese and veggie.
  • The acorn 2 girls love swimming and are always practicing their floating and diving. They also love arts and crafts.

A great night activity this week was ‘make me laugh’ where all 3 bunks had to try and make their counsellors laugh. It was a night of joy and laughter.

Middle Girls

Another great week at Schodack for the Middle Girls!

This week the Middle Girls got a chance to make some homemade pizza in the camper kitchen. At schokarts, passengers in the karts competed in a water balloon target throwing contest, accumulating points for the Middle Girls, competing against other divisions!

Some of the Middle Girls went to a soccer intercamp in Timberlake this week! They came back to Schodack with a win in both games! It was an exciting day out for those girls.

The second session LT Carnival took place on Sunday. There were food stands, a waterslide, water plunger, and even horse racing! The most popular stand at the carnival was the reptile
zoo! There were all different types of snakes, legless lizards, and tortoises!

On Tuesday it was trip day again! The Middle Girls took a trip to Grafton State Park. We played some sports on the beach, went for a swim and ate some delicious burgers straight from the BBQ. It was a great beach day for all and we are very excited for Six Flags next week!

On Thursday we had a special visit from the BMX Stunt Bike crew. It was an incredible show! We also had another visit from Kona Ice and a Middle Camp pool party.

Everyone also got a chance to practice their BPN for the last leg of triple crown this Saturday! It is going to be a great show.

Middle Boys

Honestly, I’m not sure much happened this week… JUST KIDDINGGGGGGG!!!

A lot went on for the Middle Camp boys this week! Tuesday we all headed to Grafton Beach. Doug and Grace grilled up some fresh burgers and hot dogs for us, made fresh to order. They kept their heads warm with a hamburger and hot dog hat! After the boys ate they ran- and I mean ran down to the beach to hit the water. The boys were swimming within seconds, building sand structures, and digging holes deep enough hoping to reach the Earth’s core- They never did, thankfully.

They absolutely loved it! Lazy morning Wednesday was a hit, per usual, but some of the Tulip boys headed down to the lake to go fishing! Meanwhile the Sassafras and Larch boys played doubles tennis in the Schodack open! Sunday’s special event was the LT Carnival, where we saw a slip-n-slide and a petting zoo of reptiles! It was definitely quite the sight seeing some of my boys holding a baby crocodile… Thursday’s special event featured some AWESOME BMX tricksters, soooo don’t be surprised if they come home asking for BMX bikes! There’s more! The Middle Boys Staff and I planned a special event day on Friday for the boys, we took a twist on Challenge Day.

The boys were divided into four teams, and started the day in an army theme. We started with competitive cleaning, moved on to water balloons, captured the flag and ended the morning with a full on Handball tournament! It was jam-packed awesome. In the afternoon, we moved to a Christmas theme, where the boys got Christmas goodie bags.We moved on to a Sleigh Ride Scavenger hunt, then a reindeer rope pull race, and ended the day with fire circle and out twist on White Elephant. The boys are looking forward to Bunk Plaque Night (BPN) on Saturday as they’ve been working diligently!

See y’all next week!

Senior Girls

Another fun-packed week for Senior Girls! Aside from regular activities, there have been plenty of special activities and events which have taken place.

The senior girls kicked off their weekend with a special early morning wake-up call on Saturday. They gathered at the hockey court, bundled up in blankets, and enjoyed hot chocolate and donuts as they watched the sunrise together. This serene start to the day was followed by a well-deserved lie-in and a lazy morning, allowing everyone to recharge before the day ahead.

Monday brought a burst of excitement as the entire division took a break from the usual afternoon activities to engage in a  game of assassin. The laughter and strategy-filled game brought everyone closer together and was a highlight of the day. It was great to see the girls working together, forming alliances, and enjoying some friendly competition.

For Trip Day, the girls began with a chance to join in a peaceful yoga session in the morning, followed by a delicious BBQ lunch which was enjoyed at camp. After lunch, the girls boarded the buses to Lake Taghkanic. The afternoon was spent at the beach, where they swam in the lake, played beach volleyball and soaked up the sun.

The week culminated in a fantastic special event on Thursday afternoon. The girls were treated to the refreshing Kona Ice truck and a welcomed pool party in the heat! The grand finale was an amazing BMX show with stunts and tricks that had everyone cheering.

Senior Boys

It has been ANOTHER exceptional week for the senior boys. The activities, the places, and, most importantly, the people have made it another exceptional Schodack week.

This week we took a trip to Lake Taghkanic where we enjoyed lying on the beach. We played beach volleyball, and football and enjoyed the concession stand. Speaking of lakes, we had the chance to get down to the Schodack lake and enjoy canoeing, paddle boarding, waterskiing, and more!

We’ve also been enjoying a variety of night activities! We had a chance to watch a movie together and also got to tune into the Olympics! We also had a chance to have our own competitive sports competition. We played hockey at night “under the lights.” Our players had player introductions with music and handshakes and we had a phenomenal game that ended 5-3.

We also got a sweet treat in Kona Ice, a Schodack favorite. This was paired with an exciting BMX show!

We are now preparing for Bunk Plague Night, working on our songs and creating our Plagues in an incredibly anticipated event!

LTs

LTs

The LTs are writing you this missive from Montreal after another event-filled week. Last Friday we welcomed back Hope 7 for their second and final visit of the summer. It was a fun-filled event with water sliding, climbing tower, go karting pool time and tennis. It was a fantastic event for hosts and visitor. We are excited to renew our friendships next summer.

Saturday Night was the annual Rock, Paper Scissors tournament (and a win for the program!) where Shane Goldberg emerged triumphant from a field of over 200 competitors! The next day the LTs were front and center again, running a second Carnival for the whole camp and for Rookie Day on Sunday afternoon. Monday saw the final challenge day – Growing Up – where the final results of the summer-long challenge were tabulated.

And the winner is…. they’ll find that out at the Banquet in the final week! Amid all that, the LTs served a French themed dinner to the whole camp before packing up for Montreal. Canada is a treat every year with Jet Boating, a visit to La Ronde, fine dining in Old Montreal, the views and emotions of the scenic views on Mont Royal and then shopping at Roots!

The week ahead looks fun as well, with Bunk Plaque Night and the much-anticipated LT show front and center in everyone’s mind. These are also the days when the second years focus on their permanent bunks and the first years are already starting to think about 2025 and where their area of specialization is likely to lie.

More From The Week

Earlier this week, Middle Camp had a pool party to end all pool parties! The sun was setting and created the perfect atmosphere for some after hours swimming time. The pool was full of floaties, toys, and campers all bringing a lot of energy. It set the tone for the remainder of the weekend, with Fire Circle and our annual Rock, Paper, Snerson Tournament both taking place back-to-back. Our story this week was a camp classic and possibly all-time favorite: Uncle Lou Hated Rocks!
Our RPS Tournament felt even more exciting with the return of the namesake of the tournament, Evan Snerson in the building to referee the intense battle for a spot in the Book of Records.  Over in the pocket of forest nearby the Schokarts track, our Acorns were getting their fill on s’mores and a campfire song like no other. Our adventure team has completely remodeled the camping area since last summer to make it more conducive to division-wide slumber parties. The area is now equipped with a s’mores station, fairy lights, and sitting stumps for stories and song by the fire.
Other campers have had the opportunity to get off camp via rafting trips, museum visits, and intercamp tournaments. While Senior Camp was enjoying a beach day at a nearby lake, the rest of camp went over to Grafton State Park for a day by the beach, enjoying nature and devouring hotdogs and burgers fresh from the grill!
On Wednesday, we called our first rainy day of the second session and gathered in the Playhouse for a camp-wide game of tray flip. Our winner, a middle camper in the Tulip Girls celebrated her victory in the excited embrace of bunkmates and counselors.
Thursday saw the return of the BMX show, the Kona Ice Truck, and Schochella. First, campers moved in rounds from enjoying mixing together their own recipes for the perfect shaved ice treat, to a pool party put on by our amazing pool staff, to the BMX show. We were dazzled by the bikers as they floated overhead– very overhead in the case of a few counselors.
Schochella may be the biggest music festival in all of Nassau, NY. Tickets are very limited. It’s said you have to know someone at Schodack to make it in. The lineup is also like no other. An array of underground artists who haven’t broken the scene yet but have enough talent and charm to win a Grammy someday. With our blankets and festival best on, we gathered down in the well for an evening of live music. Our staff took the stage while campers got to enjoy face painting and having front row seats to it all. This brings us into the start of one of our most musical weeks at camp.
With BPN set to start soon, tribals fakes crackling on, and songs of the summer still fresh in our hearts, there’s still so much to look forward to as we begin to close the chapter on summer 2024.

UltraLeagues + Inter Camps

It was another amazing week of intercamp and ultraleague competitions. Upper camp saw a thrilling win for the black samurai over the purple reign with the teams trading goals before black secured the winner.  On the basketball court the O-squad defeated a resurgent green elite in a tight contest.

MIddle camp saw the opening of the Schodack finals in basketball with sky blue and lime green splitting the first 2 games. A late comeback from blue who did not lead until the final moments earned them the first game while game 2 saw lime green comeback late to win it with a strong second half.
Junior camp featured the opening of the Schodack Series at baseball between the knights and gators. Game 1 was scoreless going into the 5th before the gators were able to string together enough hits to get the winning runs across. Game 2 was just the opposite with both teams trading blows in a 10-7 win for the gators.
In intercamp competition over 20 campers heading into 4th grade traveled to Timberlake for the “Little Buddies” tournament. The boys played basketball and golf and the girls took to the soccer field. We had both boys and girls playing tennis as well.
