Newsletter 7: Summer 2025

08.08.2025

It’s hard to believe there are only 5 days left together in the 12123. The mornings feel a little cooler…but the excitement is hotter than ever!!

For one, Bunk Plaque Night, the final leg of our Triple Crown took place on Saturday. This year’s BPN was as magical as ever, with each bunk coming together to “wow” the entire camp with emotional and powerful songs about their summer experience. The plaques themselves look pretty incredible too! We will hear many of these songs repeated for years to come!

Also, on the Playhouse Stage, our 2nd Session Musical – “The Schodack Summer Spectacular: A Disney Review” included amazing performances of all our favorite Disney numbers throughout the years. The cast and crew did a wonderful job in both of their performances of this awesome show. Also, our LT show was a true highlight of the week. All 81 of them were involved in the performances which ranged from dances, songs, funny skits, a “backwards” video and much more. Our LTs are a special group and it was fun seeing the younger campers look up to them for a wonderful show.

Junior Girls

What an incredible week it’s been for the Junior Girls of Aspen, Cedar, and Balsam!

The girls crushed Bunk Plaque Night on Saturday, singing their hearts out and showing off their creativity on stage. We couldn’t have been prouder of their performances and bunk spirit.

On Monday, we ventured to Six Flags for our final trip day of the summer. From coaster rides to sweet treats, it was a day packed with fun and laughter.

A special shoutout goes to the talented Junior Girls who participated in the Schodack Summer Spectacular: A Disney Celebration! Whether on stage or behind the scenes, their hard work and enthusiasm made the show truly magical.

This week also brought the long-awaited break of Tribals! The girls have been loving the spirited competition, and all the exciting activities, from Gaga and soccer to climbing tower and pool games (including designing and racing their own dragon boats!). Their enthusiasm is contagious, and it’s been amazing to watch them give their all while cheering each other on. Many of the girls signed up for a classic Tribals all camp event: Carter’s Challenge, an iron camper race through every activity on camp!

Thanks for tuning in all summer long. We’re enjoying every last moment of fun and friendship here in the 12123.

Bye for now! 🙂

Junior Boys

Another great week for the junior boys. 3rd place in BPN!! Balsam Blackout was our name and we sang it proud. The boys put on an amazing show and really sung their hearts out.

There has been a lot else happening this week including, the Disney spectacular and six flags. Some of the boys featured in the Disney spectacular and put on a great show on stage. The rest of the bunk were in the front row to cheer them on. The Balsam boys loved six flags and we even came back to camp with some huge stuffed animals.

Daytime activities that stood out this week included archery and cooking. Archery was thoroughly enjoyed as the boys shot arrows at the creatures on the targets. By hitting certain areas of the creatures the individual groups gained points depending on where they hit. Cooking was so much fun as the boys made their own pasta sauces. Vodka and marinara sauces were made between two groups and then they exchanged to try each others. Delicious!!

We will continue to enjoy our time here at camp!!!!

Super Junior Girls

What a week it’s been for our Super Juniors! We kicked things off with a YES Day just for them—everything was a “yes,” which meant tons of fun games, awesome prizes, a delicious chocolate fountain, and a camp-wide scavenger hunt that had the girls running around with big smiles.

Later in the week, we took a trip to Six Flags, where the girls had an absolute blast. Between the rides, snacks, and the giant stuffed animals they somehow managed to bring back, it was a day to remember!

To top it all off, things started heating up with a villain-themed Tribals event before the big break. The energy, excitement, and camp spirit were through the roof!

What a great start to the last week of camp!

Super Junior Boys

Hi everyone,

Another week of nonstop fun with the Super Junior Boys! We are having the best summer.

Saturday was Bunk Plaque Night, and it was incredible to see the boys performing on stage with such creativity and energy. Shoutout to the Elm Boys with “Elm Realm,” who placed second. The Oak Boys’ “Oak Oasis” and Maple Boys’ “Mad Maple Syrup” were also amazing. These are songs the kids will always remember and want to keep singing.

We also had our special Super Junior “Yes Day” afternoon of events. We kicked things off with a scavenger hunt around camp, collecting clues that led to pictures of candy and food items, which unlocked special treats later on. After that, we painted a giant mural with everyone’s handprints. It was fun and messy, but don’t worry, it all washed off. Then we played a dice game with silly challenges and fidget toy prizes. Finally, all the clues came together for a giant candy salad and dipping treats at the first-ever Camp Schodack chocolate fountain. The candy salad had more than 20 different candies. So yummy. Each kid got a chocolate-dipped strawberry, marshmallow, and pretzels. We even had special Yes Day stickers. The afternoon ended with an epic pool party with all the staff and kids.

Trip Day was to Six Flags Great Escape, where the boys had a blast on the rides, enjoying fun food, and winning some pretty cool prizes. It was an amazing final Trip Day of the summer.

The rest of the week was packed with excitement. We had the two-part LT Show, featuring 24 outstanding acts from our amazing LTs. The boys loved seeing their role models up on stage showing off their talents.

And then… Tribals broke… twice. First came a fake break, where it seemed the villains had stolen Tribals for good, leading to an afternoon of fun and villain training. Then the real break happened, kicking off five days of spirited competition and unforgettable memories.

As you read this on Friday, we are three days into Tribals with tons of exciting activities already completed and many still to come. So far, we’ve had Gaga, Scho-Karts, basketball, soccer, 4-square, a climbing tower fiasco, pool olympics, trivia, bombardment, the classic Bucket Brigade, and more.

Stay tuned for even more fun as we wrap up an unforgettable Summer 2025.

All the best from the 12123,

Russell DH

Middle Girls

Another amazing week has come to a close in the 12123 and summer is quickly going by! So much has happened so let’s go through it all.

Friday was our second to last fire circle led by the Walnut girls with our theme being commitment and our song we sang was Fight Song! Everyone had a great time but the night wasn’t done yet. Following fire circle was Schoachella, an event where many campers and counselors sang or played instruments for the camp and we all had popcorn as a snack to watch. It was a great night for all of us to enjoy.

On Saturday we had the last leg of Triple Crown which was Bunk Plaque Night also known as BPN. The Walnut girl’s name was Wanna Be Walnut. The Spruce girls were Spruce Signing Off. The Pine Girls were the Pine Point of View and the Sycamore Girls were the Sycamore Sound. So many amazing songs and lyrics about the summer were sung with amazing plaques for all of the camp to see! The Walnut and Pine Girls tied for first place out of middle camp and the Sycamore Girls placed third. Everyone did such an amazing job and it was a great conclusion to Triple Crown.

Sunday we had some great activity periods wrapping up the final days of regularly scheduled days. The Walnut Girls had a great archery period hitting gold multiple times while they were here. The Spruce Girls hit it out of the park during their softball period having a great time as always. The Sycamore Girls had a fun time at volleyball working on their serves and getting some good volleys in. The Pine Girls played some games and ran around at soccer showing great spirit. For night activity we had Schoachella where many campers and counselors sang and played instruments. We all enjoyed popcorn while we watched all of the performances.

Monday was our last trip day to Six Flags! Everyone had such a great day going on many roller coasters and other rides, winning prizes, eating some food and other sweet treats, and many middle girls were also very happy to have Starbucks. It was a wonderful day to get off camp and a great conclusion to all of the trips we had this summer. Tuesday was another fun day at camp until the Disney Villains came to camp and broke tribals! We had an afternoon of silly games including treasure chest and relay races at the pool and villain bootcamp. Today we also had a two part LT show which was so fun to watch and cheer all of our CIT friends and big sisters. After LT show the heroes came back to camp to defeat the villains and Hercules came to save the day and break tribals again. It was a great day for everyone and an exciting start to 5-day. Wednesday was an amazing start to tribals with hatchet hunt, activity periods, many middle girls going to the lake, and ending the day with the Marathons!

Thanks for tuning in to the newsletter this summer. It has been such an amazing time catching up each week. This time next week everyone will be home and counting down the days to summer 2026! I can’t believe how fast this summer has gone.

Until next time, Charlie DH <3

Middle Boys

Middle Boy Life Changers,

It is with a lump in my throat that I write to all you lovely folks for the last time. When I tell you that this has been one of the greatest experiences so far in my eleven years at camp, I truly mean it. This summer has flown by faster than ever before, and I do not know if I am prepared to leave these kids yet. All this being said, we have been having a wonderful final week of camp. If I were you, I would sign all your kids up immediately for singing lessons because their beautiful voices echoed through the playhouse during Bunk Plaque Night. The Sycamore Boys stung the crowd with their Sycamore Sting. The Spruce Boys taught us how to throw away the trash with ReSpruce Reuse Recycle. The Pine Boys stole the show with second place with their Project Pine. The screams continued the next day as we made our way to Six Flags to eat junk food and spend all our money on carnival games to win some giant prizes that surely will not take up a huge amount of space in the car or the buses home, and on the epic roller coaster where, thankfully, all the food stayed in our systems. The excitement continued with an epic Tribals break that had the camp totally in shock when the villains originally broke Tribals, but the heroes came back later in the night and broke the real Tribals. Not to toot my own horn, but both of the male generals came from Middle Camp, which just goes to show how great the Middle Boys are. As these five days continue, the fun will not stop and the vibes will stay high as camp comes to a close. In my own experience of coming home from camp, the transition can look different for everyone. I am sure you know your own kids better than I do, but just remember that if they do not want to share every single thing as soon as they get home, it is not because they do not love you, but because they are not used to sleeping in their own rooms or eating delicious home-cooked meals, and most importantly, not seeing me every day. I hope you all have enjoyed these newsletters as much as I have enjoyed writing them. Good luck to everyone with school and work and life, and I hope that I can hang with all these kids sometime soon.

With that, the saga has come to its end. So long, parents.

#1 Division Head,

Jack Cohen

Super Seniors

It’s been an incredible final full week of camp for the Super Seniors, packed with memories and fun!

The playhouse was electric on Saturday night as both the boys and girls performed their entertaining BPNs. The boys gave camp a laugh with “Super Senior Yogurt”, while the girls delivered an exciting BPN “Super Senior Dream.” Though neither bunk placed for upper camp, both groups lit up the stage with their enthusiasm and had a blast performing together.

Monday was our final trip day, and the Super Seniors split up between two destinations: Saratoga and Six Flags. The Six Flags crew spent all day enjoying the rides and winning prizes, while the Saratoga crew spent the day shopping for Jellycats and enjoying some sushi.

On Tuesday, the villains of tribals took over, and broke a fake tribals. The boys repped orange and the girls purple, diving into silly and spirited challenges throughout the day. That evening, the Super Seniors cheered on the LTs during the always-incredible LT Show, and watched permanents and friends up on stage.  Finally, at the end of the show, tribals broke, and just like that, 5 day began!

The Super Seniors got off to an amazing start. Carter Applebaum made camp history by finding the hatchet in the pit! He, along with the fellow lieutenants Nate Pinsky, Naomi Kretizer, and Ivy Klein, proudly led the Green and White teams with energy and pride.

We wrapped up the day with the Marathons, where many Super Seniors showed off their impressive speed and endurance. The night ended with canteen and quality time spent together.

It’s been a great week for the Super Seniors, and were holding onto the few days we have left. With Carter’s Challenge, The Relay, and more still to come, the tribals fun is far from over.

Thanks for keeping up with the Super Seniors this summer!

Signing off from 12123,

Mae DH

LTs

The LTs enjoyed an action-packed trip to Montreal – easily the highlight is the Jet Boating on the Lachine Rapids – this really is something that you simply HAVE TO DO if you are ever in Montreal in late summer. Fantastique!!! Bunk Plaque Night was amazing. Both groups performed extremely well, and The Waiters won the night, bringing live music (Shane, Lincoln, Eli) to the stage and having the audience in tears as they closed to the haunting tones of Coldplay’s The Scientist. Yesterday the First Years thoroughly enjoyed their day in Saratoga while the second years were helping the younger campers at 6 Flags in Lake George. These words are being written just prior to the start of LT Show Day, when hopefully we will live up to the incredibly high standard of recent years. We are incredibly lucky to be able to present Linda Krouner playing Flight of the Bumblebee – and all the LTs are looking forward to seeing that before putting on the varied acts that make up The Show. Ahead are all the great occasions that make the ending of a camp summer, notably the LT Banquet at local restaurant Moscatiello’s where we celebrate the year and look back on the journey we have taken together. This is a great group of LTs and we all feel very fortunate to have spent the summer together.

More From The Week

A major buzz was felt across camp as Tribals had been growing nearer…would the villains truly steal Tribals and change the legendary colors from Green and White. On Tuesday night we found out – goodness prevailed and all was restored as Maya Roth, our SPEC, broke the arrow and started us on five days of fun and competition. It was a break we will all remember for a long time.

Our teams, Great White Shark and Mean Green Machine, have been battling it out in events such as Hatchet Hunt, The Marathons, Track Meet and many, many fun sports and bunk activities. Tribals is a time of extra excitement and energy, but it’s also a time for teamwork and cooperation and that has been fully on display as both teams are neck and neck on the score sheets. We can’t wait to see how the final few days Tribals plays out!!!

We are soaking in every moment here at Schodack and the final 5 days will truly be epic. As this is our final Newsletter of the summer, we at the Comms Team want to thank you for following along this summer. It has been a joy keeping you up-to-date on all the magical things taking place here at Schodack!

UltraLeagues

It was another great week of Ultra League action in the 12123. We had the upper camp semi finals for basketball on Wednesday night where Orange played against Green and Purple were up against Red in the garden back to back. The whole of middle and upper camp were out in force to watch the matches be played in great spirit.

The Orange v Green clash started off terrifically for Green, as they sailed into a 11-5 lead, with the help of a couple of great 3 pointers. However Orange wrestled back control right before the end of the 2nd quarter to lead 29-17. The game was end to end in the 3rd before Orange stole a march on their opponents and ended up victorious with a 39-32 scoreline

In the second match, Red and Purple started cagey, with a low score of 4-4 by the end of the 1st quarter. The game remained close throughout, with some wonderful rebound work from a couple of Purple’s top performers. Eventually it would be Purple that would come out on top and set up a grandstand finish to ultra leagues with Orange on Saturday night

We cannot wait for the final few matches of a terrific season of UL!
