Summer Newsletter – Week 4!

07.29.2016

Hi again! For those just tuning in, my name is Brittney and I’m in my 11th summer at Schodack, currently as a member of the Leadership Trainee (LT) Staff. I study film and journalism at college and love writing the Newsletters each week! Keep an eye out for our email announcing them each Friday!

After welcoming all our Second Session campers, things continued with a bang as the whole camp gathered in the Playhouse for Counselor Show. There was amazing talent on stage and our staff entertained the camp to many laughs and cheers! Some particularly popular acts included the Head Staff makeover skit, a step-dance routine, gorgeous piano playing and Paul and Matt singing “The Krouner’s Hotel” song.

This has also been a popular week for basketball inter-camps. Our 7th grade girls played in a local tournament and proudly came home with a 3rd Place Trophy! On Thursday, we hosted a Basketball inter-camp here at Schodack for Senior Camp Girls. It was a Round Robin style inter-camp and Schodack won both of their games. Lots of campers came to cheer them on and the Garden was rocking!

Camping overnights have been available to all Junior and Middle Campers throughout the summer. They take place right in our own beautiful woods and a ton of both boys and girls attended an overnight this week. The overnights are a lot of fun and great experience for campers to hike, pitch a tent in the woods, make s’mores under the stars and enjoy nature!

The Lake has been booming during regular activity periods! A new invention this summer is the “Wake Wall of Fame,” which encourages campers to work on their skills skiing or wake-boarding – any campers who moves successfully in and out of the wake get their names added to the Wall of Fame which is hung on Lake Shed. The Banana Boat and Hotdog Boat are also getting a lot of use during additional Rest Hour sign-ups each day.

In other sporting news, there has been an ongoing Penalty Shoot-Out at Soccer this week and at Ultra Leagues, our more competitive Camper’s Choice Sports league, our Middle Boys have had some amazing games with wild finishes. It’s been a phenomenal Ultra Leagues season so far.

The Art Shack has been producing some sculpture masterpieces lately – our art staff have been hosting special Camper’s Choice periods where campers are encouraged to use the pottery wheels to make ceramic figures or pots. Fridays are also always bustling at Arts and Crafts because it’s “Tie Dye Friday,” where campers can come and tie dye camp shirts with their own creative color choices.

I hope that gives you a good update on some of the exciting things going on here at camp! As something a little special for this week, and in honor of Second Session starting, I’m adding a copy of this morning’s camp newspaper…The Schodack Scoop! “The Scoop” is brought to us every morning at breakfast by the LT’s and is everyone’s favorite spot to read about camp announcements, funny jokes and news from all around the world! Enjoy!
