From the moment campers arrived, whispers of 2-Day Tribals have been going around. Talk only grew louder in recent days when a nefarious Jack Sparrow began popping up all around camp. Raiding our gatherings, crashing Talent Show, being pied in the face ahead of lunch. This week, our wait for 2-Day ended. It all started on Friday evening, the sky had darkened into a looming overcast and all of camp were attending their night activities. That’s when the firecrackers sounded and we all jumped into action. At the Rec Hall, a band of pirates greeted us with rhyming couplets and arrows holding scrolls. Then, a footrace towards what should’ve been the pool led us to the open sea. There, we witnessed our Pirate of The Caribbean fight off two other pirates who were determined to keep tribals from breaking. In the end, Sparrow came out victorious– yielding a hatchet and driving it into wood. 2-Day Tribals had officially begun!
Thus began a weekend full of festivity. Campers were awoken to sounds of ukulele strumming as their Generals, Head Lieutenants and Captains yielded them awake. Dawning green or white, campers spent two days doing all they could to earn their teams more points. All of camp gathered together for Hatchet Hunt, Bucket Brigade, The Dashes and Medleys– digging, running, swimming, and water cupping with verve and hope for victory. Things capped off with rope burning, a race to be the first to build a fire tall enough to burn through three separate ropes. Our art team revealed the plaques for both teams –Green Vortex and White Aura– and a winner was announced. In honor of Schodack spirit, we won’t disclose the winner here. The true champion in everything was friendship. With the fires still roaring we gathered around and began a chorus of friends-friends-friends as the sun set on what had been a lovely 2-Day Tribals.

The acorns are still having the best time in the 12123.
This week has been busy but enjoy full week. Trip day this week included a trip to the movies to see a choice of despicable me or inside out. After the movies we headed to bowling where everyone was trying to get strikes. All the acorns also experienced their first ever tribals which was so much fun!! All 3 bunks split into either green or white to compete. They all reunited at the end and came together to celebrate the 2 days.
Here are some of the things we’ve been up to this week.
- The Acorn 1 girls have loved arts and crafts and schokarts
- The Acorn 2 girls all did a dance together in the dance show which went very well!! Smiles all round…..
- The Acorn boys have loved the water slide and basketball!!
Another great week has come to an end for all 3 bunks. In a blink of an eye the first session is almost over. What a great first session we’ve had making new friends and trying new things.

The Larch Girls battled it out on the soccer field.
The Tulip Girls enjoyed some creative tennis games.

It was a very successful and enjoyable tribals for the Middle Girls.

between Despicable Me 4 or Inside Out 2. After the movie we hit the bowling alley and had a
great day overall.

Middle Boys
Camp Schodack has been jumping with energy thanks to the Middle Boys!
At this week’s Trip Day we hit the bowling lanes. Despite the bowling class I took during my freshman year of college, many of the boys still were striking and sparing more than me! We visited Crossgates Mall to see Despicable Me 4 and Inside Out and the boys made sure to have ample popcorn, snacks, and candy to accompany them throughout the movie.
2-Day Tribals broke this past weekend, as Ben Perle fought off pirates (Ollie Ops and Doug). White Aura general Ari Platt found the hatchet within minutes, but Green Vortex won the bucket brigade. Green generals Laurie Ropes and Sam Bernstein built their fire quickly to come away with the win in rope burning!
Sooooo excited going into second session!!!!
See you next week

Senior Boys
The Senior boys are back! It has been an exciting, fun-filled week.
We had a very special day for the entire senior boys division! As a surprise, we took a
day off of our normally scheduled activities to enjoy a day of special activities. These included a baking competition, boat racing, trivia, and a relay race with the winning team winning a donut party!
We followed that up with a special trip day that included getting food from a local favorite
restaurant: My Place. We also made our way over to Funplex where we enjoyed minigolf,
go-karting, a trampoline park, and more! All of this ended with a late-night bonfire!
Activities have been great, Lip Sync practice is exciting, and visiting day is approaching
fast! The vibes on camp are immaculate!

LTs
As we approach Visiting Day the LTs continue to excel in all areas all across camp! 2-Day Tribals was a welcome change and LTs were seen participating at a high level in many events. Allie Richman was almost down on her nose at the start of the dash but came roaring through at the finish to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Monday and Tuesday nights saw us at a huge local B&B, where we had the property to ourselves. The Waiters went first and combined swimming with late-night movie marathons – while the CITs – whose trip was shortened by an apocalyptical storm, rallied spectacularly with Charm Necklace making, face masks and an awesome Hugh Jackman movie – both groups after stuffing themselves with Chipotle! Back at camp, we all evaluated each other on Wednesday as a mid-season checkup to make sure we are all progressing the right way. We cheered on the campers’ production of Willy Wonka and enjoyed ice cream sundaes made by the staff. As I write, both groups are working hard on Lip Sync – the results of which will be known a bare three hours after you read this and the night before Visiting Day. We are looking forward to seeing you on Saturday, where the LTs will be on display, holding the line and preventing the campers and parents from meeting up before the ten o’clock precisely.
More From The Week
Wonka JR!
A first for Camp Schodack theater- a dress rehearsal during a hail storm wasn’t what any member of the Wonka JR cast and crew would’ve expected and still, they gave an amazing show for all of upper camp. The Playhouse was transformed into a land made of sweets and meanwhile, our sweet campers had transformed into an ensemble of rotten children who’d been given the golden opportunity to spend the day with the mysterious Willy Wonka. Giant gummy bears, chocolate bars and boxes of nerds bigger than the human head, and what might be one of the most impressive set designs The Playhouse stage has seen to date. Wonka JR was a production like no other.
Intercamps and Ultra Leagues!
This past week at Camp Schodack has been packed with exciting intercamp tournaments and games, showcasing our campers’ athletic skills and team spirit.
Our 5th-grade boys competed in a thrilling flag football tournament against Timberlake, displaying impressive coordination and enthusiasm. Meanwhile, the 5th-grade girls also competed in Timberlake for a competitive soccer game, where they exhibited excellent teamwork and determination.
Our 7th and 8th grade boys faced a tough baseball tournament at Greylock, demonstrating their perseverance and dedication. Their resilience and teamwork made us proud.
Additionally, a mix of 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade girls’ played softball in an intense tournament against Camp Kindering and Whaa Knee. Their skill and passion shone brightly, leaving a lasting impression on everyone present.
These intercamp events have provided our campers with valuable experiences and cherished memories, reinforcing the camaraderie and sportsmanship that define Camp Schodack.
Celebration, Dance Show, and More!
We had our first Cultural Trip of the season earlier this week. Campers had the chance to voyage off-camp for a day at Mass Moca. A museum featuring a collection of contemporary, eclectic art. The photos featured here were all taken by one of our senior campers who attended the trip!
Thursday marked our final special event day of first session. The day started out a beat cooler than the string of warmer days we’d been experiencing. We sent off first session with lots of energy and love. It started after lunch, where we filed into the Playhouse to witness the magical prowess of the great and powerful Eric Wilzig. Also on the Playhouse stage, our annual Dance Show! Groups, solo, camper choreographed. Campers in the audience sang along and clapped to the beat as their peers strutted across the stage.
We began Celebration promptly after dinner. An evening full of trips down memory lane, the return of our beloved counselor-djed silent disco, and a Dining Hall ice cream party with Doug. A shared sentiment could be felt throughout camp. First session had flown by in the speed of a blink. Half a summer behind us, new friends, reunions, and teary goodbyes on the horizon.
Our last hurrah, Lip Sync is under way and there’s no better way to send off the first half of summer than with song and dance. We can’t wait to see what is in store for the rest of summer!
